Flight from Newark to Nairobi:

 

Aug 02: We flew from Newark to Frankfurt, with 4 hr. layover and then to Nairobi on Lufthansa. During the Safari, no hard bags are allowed, and hence we packed in duffle bags. Also, most clothes should be of light color, Khaki or Grey. The dark colors attract insects. Now, I know, why people always wear Khaki in any documentary/movie in African safari, even police and army all over the world during colonial times.

While checking in at Lufthansa, I showed my Lufthansa/Airline Tattoos on my arms to manager at Newark airport.  She was impressed and took a photo of my Tattoo. After about an hour later, while waiting for the departure, I got a text message that we both were upgraded to business class, complementary. My airline tattoos have benefited me immensely over the last 3 years.

 

 

Later at Frankfurt before boarding flight to Nairobi, we scanned our boarding passes, it beeped and machine spit out 2 free business class upgrades. It was pure luck; the flight was over booked.

Why Wine Tastes different at 36,000 ft than on ground: The cabin pressure is lower along with humidity (20%), hence it dries our mucous membranes, limiting our ability to appreciate different flavors, hence many wines taste different, not that flavorful, in air, than at ground level. Typically, full bodied and fruity wines taste better in the air. 

Also, when champagne is poured in the glass, due to low cabin pressure, one can notice more bubbles in the glass. See dancing champagne in my glass.

Upon arrival at Nairobi around 9 PM, the weather was pleasant, 65 Deg F (18 Deg C), the city appeared modern at night. We checked in at one of the most famous and historic hotels, The Stanley. see photos below in 1953 and today.
